Are you ready for R? A Workbook for R for Political Science and Beyond
Michael Strausz
When I decided to teach students to use R in my Scope and Methods of Political Science class, I was not able to find a workbook for students that satisfied me, so I wrote this for my students. You are welcome to use it to teach yourself R or to teach R in non profit educational settings (please contact me regarding commercial use). You can find the workbook here.
As you can see, I have made the workbook into a nice webpage which makes it very easy for you to copy and paste pieces of code and modify them for your use. If you’d rather have the workbook as a series of PDFs, you can download them individually here (you can find the necessary data files here): Detailed Table of Contents, Preface, Chapter 1: Getting started with R, Chapter 2: Welcome to the tidyverse, Chapter 3: Graphing and describing variables, Chapter 4: Recoding and comparing values of variables, Chapter 5: Making controlled comparisons, Chapter 6: Making inferences from sample means, Chapter 7: From chi-squared to Somers' D, Chapter 8: Pearson's r and linear regression, Chapter 9: Multiple regression, Chapter 10: R in the wild). As of April 2023, I will no longer be updating those PDFs, so if you want to see the most recent version of the workbook, go to the workbook’s website.
